Olympics Fever - Triumphs

First of all I apologize for my absence, it is mostly due to college. Moving in, shopping, orientation, registration the whole shibang.

I should be settled and back on track by September.

So on to the Olympics....Michael Phelps. He did it!

He did the unthinkable...he is now officially Superman. He won EVERY SINGLE RACE!

He achieved his goal, his dream, to get 8 gold medals in one Olympic and he did it. He beat Spitz, he's the most decorated Olympian of all time and that makes him VERY special.

He's pretty awesome and he's so young too. I can't wait to see him in London. Are you excited?

Another athlete that made history was Jamaica's very own Usain Bolt.

He took the gold medal in both the 100m and the 200m finals which hasn't been done since 1984.

But that feat isn't what shot him into the history books, it was the fact that he took both medals with world records which has NEVER been done before.

He smashed his own world record of 9.72 in the 100m with a whopping 9.69. He also broke Michael Johnson's twelve year 19.32 200m record with his 19.30 sprint.

And did anyone see that 100m womens final. Jamaica took a clean sweep. Gold and tied for silver. I mean what more could you ask for.

This type of sportmanship is what the Olympics is all about.

Jamaica has been doing very well in the games placing 4th in Track and Field and 22nd overall according to Yahoo Sports with 7 medals, 4 gold and 3 silver. I mean for a small island that is AWESOME!

And who could forget Yelena Isinbayeva's gold medal pole vaulting skills and her world record, third try, nail biting, edge of your seat vault over the
16'6¾" high pole.

That was her 24th world record. She is also very special and I can't wait to see her in London.

Olympics Fever - Scandals

Today we explore the wonderful world of China and check in with the Beijing Olympics.

For all who watched the opening ceremony last week Friday you should know that the adorable little girl in the red dress that sang "Ode to the Motherland" was faking it.

Ya! The voice belonged to a 7 year old girl by the name of Yang Peiyi that the country didn't deem cute, adorable or pretty enough to represent them on a national stage.

She was yanked at the last minute by a senior Communist party official according to the LA Times and the move was justified by the ceremony music director, Chen Qigang with this statement, "It was for the national interest, the child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings and expression."

What the hell are they teaching the children in China? Why would they agree to that? And most important of all why would they tell anyone?

Now look at these two...yes I know she has crooked baby teeth and a chubby face but SO WHAT? She's SEVEN for heaven sake!!!

She has a talent, a gift she should be able to use it and show it to the world without putting a bag over her face.

As for the lip syncer Lin Miaoke your days as China's Smiling Angel are over.

China in their great effort to pull off a magnificent opening ceremony may have taken it too far when they faked the singing of "Ode to the Motherland" but I think in this scandal they were just being smart.

It's been revealed that the beautiful fireworks the TV audience witnessed on Friday were mere computer animations that took years to develop so that it would flow seamlessly into the live feed.

China it seems was worried that the cameras wouldn't be able to capture all the fireworks and so they had their computer geniuses rig up this little operation.

Why is everyone so peeved? Is it because they didn't think of it first?

The audience in Beijing saw the actual fireworks go off so it's not like it didn't happen and we all saw the last one known as the "Bird's Nest" in real time so what's the biggie?

China was trying to make sure we missed nothing in our seats at home. They put too much time, effort and money into this opening ceremony for everyone NOT to get the full effect.

The opening ceremony was beautiful, and China showed us a great time.

We should appreciate it and move on. The fireworks was nothing to really fuss about but the lip-syncing....I think that's the scandal we should look into. The tearing down of women's self esteem from such a young age. That is what should be stopped.

What are your thoughts on the Beijing Olympic scandals?

Russia's Invasion Of Georgia.

Hey everyone! I'm Shiney and welcome to my blog.

While everyone was busy paying attention to China and the opening ceremony for the Olympics, Russia attacked Georgia.

No not Georgia the state, Georgia the country.

They invaded South Ossetia with about 150 tanks and started this hoopla....or did they?

According to MSNBC and I quote
"The crisis erupted last week when Georgia sent forces to retake South Ossetia, a pro-Russian province that threw off Georgian rule in the 1990s. Moscow responded by sending its troops into Georgia."

So does that mean that Russia is not the bad guy and they were merely trying to protect a province that believes in their principles from oppression, as they so desperately want us to believe?

I don't think so, because if they were only in South Ossetia to protect they wouldn't have moved further, into Gori attacking Georgia itself.

Ya I know...you have NO idea what I'm talking about...so I got you a MAP!

Georgia.jpg Map of Georgia picture by shadowangel26

America being the "great" nation it is, is trying to intervene but as far as I can see if Russia doesn't want to stop, there is nothing they can do about it without some sort of military action. I mean Russia has already broken a cease fire. What are the odds they won't break this peace treaty that Condoleezza Rice set up.

Now what strikes me as hypocritical is George Bush's statement "Bullying and intimidation are not acceptable ways to conduct foreign policy in the 21st century."

How exactly was the Iraq war started? I explicitly remember Bush giving Saddam Hussein a ultimatum of either leaving Iraq or having the US attack. What exactly is that called Bush? Friendly nudging?

Russia's motives for invading Georgia has been revealed by the media to be, keeping Georgia out of the NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization which is an alliance of 26 countries of which they are dying to be a part of. At this time Georgia is only a partner. This attack is said to deny them membership as the NATO won't ally with someone in a conflict with Russia. As Russia and the NATO are VERY close.

What the hell? Is this high school? Who is running this country? That is so petty.

The NATO however is planning to punish Russia for its actions. Even threatening to scrub a mission they were to embark on together.

I don't know, I think NATO should watch whose toes they tread on.

What are your thoughts on the invasion?
